For archaeology fans and Magna Grecia scholars, Greek and Roman Calabria is a stop not to be missed! We will also go over the precious Byzantine, Norman, Swabian, Angevin, and Aragonese traces. We will visit some of the most significant museums  and archaeological parks in the world, and discover some of the most ancient and history-rich churches and cathedrals.

Day 1
“Rhegion” and the Famous Bronzes
Arrival at the airport of Reggio Calabria and transfer to the hotel. After lunch, visit to the historical centre and the National Museum, with the famous Bronzes of Riace and the precious panels of a polyptych by Antonello da Messina. Dinner at a typical restaurant, return to the hotel and overnight stay.

Sacred Art and Greco-Roman Remains at Vibo Valentia
After breakfast, departure for Vibo Valentia. In the afternoon, tour of the city: the Cathedral and the Museum of Sacred Art, which hold fine statues by Gagini, and the State Archaeology Museum, containing various finds from the Greek necropolis and Roman excavations. Dinner at a typical restaurant, return to the hotel and overnight stay.

The Excavations of Paestum
After breakfast, departure for Paestum. Tour of the town and the archaeological excavation area. We will be able to admire three Doric temples, among the highest architectural expressions of Greek culture. The day ends with a visit to the National Archaeology Museum. Dinner at a typical restaurant, return to the hotel and overnight stay.

Walking Around Paestum
Breakfast. Free day for visiting the town. Fish dinner at a restaurant, return to the hotel and overnight stay.

The Legendary Sybaris storiaearte_archeocalabria2
Breakfast and departure for Sibari. Lunch at a typical restaurant and tour of the town. The archaeological park, to the
southwest of Sibari, reveals the Hippodamian town planning scheme of what was the most ancient Greek colony of the Ionian coast, and which later became a Roman colony. The finds are kept in the nearby National Archaeological Museum of the Zone of Sibari (Sibaritide). Dinner and overnight stay.

The Achaean Kroton
Breakfast and departure for Crotone. Lunch at a restaurant  offering typical Calabrian-style cuisine. After a panoramic tour of the city – the Achaean Kroton, as florid and powerful as its rival Sybaris – we will visit the Cathedral, the Castle which holds the municipal library and the Civic Museum, and the National Archaeology Museum which contains precious pieces, including the Treasure of Hera. Dinner and overnight stay.

Gerace and Locri Epizephiri
Breakfast and departure for Gerace, situated over a Neolithic settlement, to visit its famous Cathedral, the oldest in Calabria. Tour of the town and lunch at a typical restaurant. Continuation on to Locri and visit to the Greco-Roman
theatre and the Archaeology Museum. Return to Reggio Calabria for dinner and overnight stay.
